The Mentors

About the Program

Sustainability Leaders Program entails four to eight weeks internship of school-going students in grades 8-12. The program is designed to introduce students to the principles of sustainability in solid waste management and to give them hands-on experience of working in the real world.

College going students and recent graduates can volunteer to mentor students, providing support and guidance on their various assignments and activities as they work through the program curriculum. Mentors can choose to interact with students in person or virtually as e-mentors.

Role of Mentors

There are two types of mentoring in the Sustainability Leaders Program:

  • General mentoring: Mentors are assigned 10-20 students to discuss and guide them through the program. They can meet with their mentees in person or virtually, and they can discuss any aspect of the program that the mentees are struggling with.

  • Topic-specific mentoring: Mentors can choose to focus on a particular topic, such as presentation making, story-telling, poster making, role-playing, making business plans, or developing websites. Students can contact their topic-specific mentors for guidance on specific tasks related to that topic.

At the end of the program, mentors can assist in evaluating student assignments and projects. Mentorship typically involves a time commitment of 2-3 hours per week for the course of the 8-week program.
