A. Advancing Potential and Inclusivity
As the vibrant learning journey progresses, I had the privilege of addressing a remarkable assembly of over a thousand students from 20 diverse schools. Their passion and dedication in our program were evident through their engaging assignments, creative posters, compelling stories, and myriad activities in and around their communities. Initially, limited training in PowerPoint presentations was offered to selected students. However, after considering the invaluable feedback from nodal teachers and witnessing the students' enthusiasm, a decision was made to extend this opportunity to every student.
B. Nurturing Public Speaking and Practical Skills
In the advanced phase, the focus will be on refining presentation and public speaking skills. Our aim is to empower these students to become sustainability leaders through hands-on activities. Students who underwent initial training in PowerPoint creation will collaborate in peer groups, creating concise presentations based on their assignments, with room for refining their original work.
Simultaneously, I have prepared an online session on public speaking, available at https://youtu.be/whMPzQMncFM, which will be conducted in classrooms while I am away for the National Games in Goa and the subsequent CBSE’s Sustainability Accelerator Industrial Internship.
C. Mentorship and Evaluation for Holistic Growth
To ensure the success of this initiative, we recruited mentors from the college level, giving them insight into the students' work and field experiences. These mentors are assigned to specific schools, offering support and guidance to both students and teachers. They will support the nodal teachers in organizing and evaluating the students' performance during the public speaking event.
The upcoming public speaking sessions on 9th-10th Nov will provide a platform for students to showcase their knowledge and creativity in sustainable waste management. This will involve speaking for 3-4 minutes before an audience, highlighting their work on waste segregation, composting, and other eco-friendly
initiatives.
D. Recognizing Excellence and Sustainability Leaders
In addition to public speaking, students will be evaluated based on various criteria, including the quality of their assignments, presentations, stories, and overall engagement in the program. The Students performance along with the school assessment would help us decided the Sustainability Leaders School of the district 2023!! Mentors will also assess the waste management practices of each school to identify the Sustainability Leaders School of the district 2023. This primarily entails waste segregation- use of 3-colour coded dustbins- green for wet waste, blue for dry waste and red for hazardous (sanitary)waste, on-site composting of horticulture and wet waste, the kitchen garden and green belt maintained, and any other sustainable life practise followed by the school.
Simultaneously, we aim to recognize and celebrate individual excellence. Six to ten students will be selected based on their exceptional performance or substantial contributions to the cause of waste management, demonstrating an exceptional commitment to sustainability.
As the program progresses, it is heartening to witness the dedication and passion of these young minds, eager to lead the way towards a more sustainable future. The journey towards empowering sustainability leaders is a collective effort, and the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by the students are truly inspiring.
